Abstract Art
All my abstract paintings are concerned with positions taken in relation to objects, people and power dynamics. For example, “The Meeting” was inspired by a Friday afternoon team meeting. “Its late, everyone is tired to the point of almost being asleep, two people have opposing agendas they are determined to drive through, someone has already left the room on some pretext….and yes, I’m drawing rather than taking notes”
I use abstract work to fuel a new direction when I feel I’ve come to the end of a series. Consequently, the work in this area is intermittent although I tend to complete 2 similar paintings before I gain a new direction.
They are always acrylic on canvas unless otherwise stated. I stretch and prime my own canvas and hand make my own battens and frames.

Figurative
During the M.A. I studied Gothic Aesthetics, Medieval European fabrics/clothing and Iconography and the Victorian Resurgence of the Gothic Movement through to Pugin’s work for the Houses of Parliament. I viewed nature as coded theology and recognised the “divine light” within all living beings, both flora and fauna. Those influences are still evident in my current “Fall Series” with its reliance on gold and ornamentation.
The type of work included on these pages ceased during Covid when I started on The Narrative Series.
